Ronco Inventions ST4000 Showtime Indoor Rotisserie and BBQ Specifications

An inexpensive introduction to the delights of rotisserie-roasted meats and poultry, this countertop device is large enough to spit-roast two chickens, a 15-pound turkey, a leg of lamb, a rack of ribs, or six kabobs. Place the spit through the wire food basket that accompanies the rotisserie and it will rotate chicken wings, salmon steaks, or other foods through the roasting cycle. Meanwhile, place the enameled-steel steaming tray atop the rotisserie, cover with its plastic lid, and the rotisserie will steam vegetables or shrimp.

At this price, you wouldn't expect this rotisserie to be restaurant sturdy. But it's not flimsy, either. Measuring 17 by 15 by 13-1/2 inches, it delivers 1,250 watts of cooking power inside an enameled-steel case with a tempered-glass door. So, you are interested in a new Toaster Oven? Welcome to the family of millions who have or are adding this small, versatile energy efficient appliance into your food preparation arsenal. It is a safe and efficient oven that can use 30 to 40% less energy to cook your food with the benefit of a very juicy locked-in flavor rather than a tough dried out meal.

Rotisserie cooking can create some great meals and make you a hit with your family and friends. You can create broasted chicken just like at the deli right in your home for a fraction of the cost. There are a couple variations of rotisserie ovens. Some larger standard-looking toaster ovens have the capability to remove the rack and be used as a rotisserie toaster oven. Others are designed specifically for this purpose, using a rotisserie wheel similar to a carousel. Some have vertical wheels and some have horizontal wheels. These are great for broasted chicken and rotisserie foods, but are specially made to rotisserie cook and not suited for replacing a conventional toaster oven.

Confused? How big? How much money? Which options? Below are some of the top considerations you may want to review to help you make the best choice for you.

Size - How large of an oven do you need? What are you going to use it for? How much counter top space do you have? Are you going to heat up frozen foods such as chicken tenders fish sticks or do you want to take full advantage of your new oven and also make full size pizzas, casserole dishes and sizeable foods such as full chickens? I suggest you buy the largest size your counter top and budget permit because after you find how convenient it is, you will be looking for more and more uses for you new toaster oven. Also be careful of size if you want to cook pizzas, a frozen pizza is just under 12 in. A lot of toaster oven descriptions only give only outside dimensions so if that is the case pick one 2 or 3 inches wider than you need for inside clearance to be safe. Price - How much do you have budgeted? In today's hard times, this can be a real and limiting factor. You can get the best value for your needs by reviewing all the options and buying one that has what you really need and forgoing the frills. You can also keep you eye open for a good deal. Options - What "extras" do you want? Options are wide open. There is anything from a ton of electronic features and controls to none stick interior to automatic eject racks. Versatility - What type of cooking do you want to do? Do you want to do specialty cooking like with a rotisserie oven for roasts and chickens or do you want to do convection baking? Do you want to do more conventional baking and reheating? If so a conventional toaster oven with whatever options you want is the way to go. Safety - Generally speaking, toaster ovens are very safe appliances. Some options to consider to make your new oven even safer are things like "cool touch sides" which also means the oven is better insulated and will more efficient to operate as you will get less heat loss. Automatic ejecting racks take reduce the risk of burn form reaching inside a hot oven. Make sure your electrical circuit can handle the wattage of your new oven.

Rotisserie cooking, or cooking on a stick as early man called it, has never been easier. Gas grills with electric rotisseries have made what was at one time a laborious task into a laid back activity. Since a rotisserie rotates at a steady, unchanging speed the level of heat remains constant and cooks all parts of the food the same. This ensures that all parts of whatever is cooked-fish, roast or fowl- will be juicy and delicious.

It's true that cooking time on a rotisserie is a little longer than cooking directly on the grill. But the great taste you get makes it well worth the time, which is about the same as cooking it in an oven in the kitchen. In addition, food cooked on a rotisserie is seared and doesn't lose its moisture that food cooked in an oven does.

Since very little, if any, extra fat has to be added to food cooked on a rotisserie this method of cooking makes for healthier as well as tasty eating.

All foods are not rotisserie friendly. But there are a large number that are. Big roasts, whole fish and whole poultry are ideal for rotisserie cooking. Beef roasts are especially good cooked on a rotisserie; they turn out crispy on the outside and nice and succulent inside. The following tips will help you get the best results cooking a beef roast on a rotisserie:

Olive oil is good to cover the outside of a roast, sprinkle it with salt and pepper and other seasonings of your choice. Rubbing the meat with spices and dried herbs will give it a brown crust when cooked. The level of heat intensity of the rotisserie will determine the temperature and cooking times required. A general rule of thumb: the tenderer the cut the less cooking time needed. Your grill manual is a good guide for determining temperature settings and cooking times. Use a meat thermometer. Since a rotisserie cooks the meat so evenly you don't want to make a gash, which would then get more heat than the rest of the roast, in it to test for doneness. The internal temperature should be between 135 and 140 degrees before removing it from the heat.

Cooking with a rotisserie gas grill has unlimited possibilities. Just remember that the bigger and delicate the flesh of the meat, fish or poultry the better it is for a rotisserie.

One thing that many would not see as a must have would be the rotisserie chicken oven, but if you are going to use it, it can be a great addition to your family.

How to Cook BBQ Ribs in Rotisserie Oven - Rotisserie Grilling Recipe

Yes, you can have deliciously cooked BBQ ribs in rotisserie oven. It is possible using a Ronco Rotisserie oven and I have a scrumptious rotisserie grilling recipe to prove it. But, let's begin with parboiling of the ribs. Prior to grilling BBQ ribs in rotisserie oven, baby back ribs are best when they have stewed for 15 minutes and thicker ribs when they have stewed for about 15 to 20 minutes.

After parboiling, marinate them in either of the following marinades via cooks.com:

For a fruity tang:

About 3 1/2 lbs. pork spare ribs or pork loin
* 1 can (6 oz.) pineapple juice
* 1/2 c. soy sauce
* 2 tbsp. brown sugar
* 1 tsp. ground ginger
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 clove garlic, minced

In a jar with a tight fitting lid, combine all ingredients except ribs. Shake well. Pour over ribs.

For a beefy boost:

* 4 lbs. pork or beef ribs
* 3 bouillon cubes (beef)
* 1 1/2 c. water, boiling
* 1/8 tsp. garlic powder
* 1/2 c. brown sugar
* 1/4 c. soy sauce

Dissolve beef bouillon cubes in boiling water. Add garlic powder, brown sugar, soy sauce. Pour over the ribs. With either marinade, place ribs in refrigerator. Marinate, turning occasionally, for several hours or overnight before grilling. Drain ribs; set aside marinade. Brush frequently with marinade while grilling BBQ ribs in rotisserie oven for up to 20 to 30 minutes, depending on thickness.

Finally, how does one put the BBQ ribs in rotisserie oven?

One of the ways is using the kabob rods that are part of the accessory package for Ronco Rotisseries:

1. Arrange the spit rod assembly in the resting area of the rotisserie.
2. Place 4 empty kabob rods next to each other in the holes around the wheel with the spring ends on the left side.
3. Using another kabob rod, thread it through the first rib.
4. Take the last kabob rod and thread it through the last rib.
5. Wrap the ribs around the empty kabob rods already arranged in the spit rod assembly until you come to the end.
6. Insert the kabob rods attached to the ribs into the gear wheel, with the spring ends on the left.
7. For two racks of ribs, thread both racks at the same time, as described above.

(Please note that it is recommended to do 1 rack of BBQ ribs in rotisserie oven when using the Ronco Rotisserie Compact model and 1 or more racks when using Standard model and larger.)
